Wake up! British research: there is no "healthy fat man" in the world

Issuing time:2020-10-24 11:20

A study by the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom showed that "obese but healthy" is impossible. Even if the obese people have a healthy metabolism, that is, they do not have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes, they still face a higher risk of heart failure, coronary heart disease and other fatal diseases than the normal weight.

The research team analyzed the medical records of 3.5 million British people, of which about 15% were obese but had a healthy metabolism, and another 38% had a normal weight and had a healthy metabolism. During the follow-up period of more than 5 years, more than 165,000 people suffered from cardiovascular disease.

The researchers comprehensively considered the age, smoking history, and socioeconomic status of the study subjects and found that compared with healthy people with normal weight, obese healthy people have a 49% higher risk of coronary heart disease, double the risk of heart failure, and stroke risk 7% higher.

The findings were published in the "Journal of the American College of Cardiology" published on the 11th. At the same time, related comments written by Jennifer Bea of the University of Arizona Cancer Center were also published. Beya wrote: "It seems that obesity is not benign." She said that excessive fat releases inflammatory substances, and chronic mild inflammation can easily cause arterial disease.

Research by the University of Birmingham also shows that being thin is not a health guarantee. About 10% of subjects with normal weight have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes
